2,593 Mhada flats for sale in Mumbai, Mira Rd
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) will once again put its low-cost houses on the market in a lottery on May 31 for 2,593 flats in Mumbai and Mira Road.
The forms for these apartments will be available from May 3 on its website
https//lottery.mhada.gov.in and can even be filled online till May 21. However, the forms would be available only until May 19.
Of the 876 flats available in Mumbai, 172 are for the high-income group (monthly income of more than Rs. 40,000) and 234 for the middle-income group (income in the range of Rs. 20,000- Rs. 40,000 a month) .
The homes in Mumbai are located at Powai, Magathane, Sion, Kurla, Malvani and Charkop.
The bulk of 1,726 flats at Mira Road are only for the low income groups (monthly salary of between Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 20,000) and the economically weaker sections (monthly salary of less than Rs. 8,000) .
“The lottery will be conducted in a transparent manner by a computerised draw and the procedure will be overseen by eminent people,” said Vaishali Wagh, public relations officer, MHADA. The committee that will oversee the draw consists of former Lokayukta Suresh Kumar, state information technology secretary Rajesh Agarwal and professor Abhay Karandikar from IIT Bombay.
Wagh defended the high number of houses for low-income groups. “As people with low incomes cannot afford to buy flats from private builders, our focus is to create more housing stock for them,” Wagh said.
In the last four years, MHADA flats have been a huge draw as more than nine lakh applicants have tried their luck for the 12,216 houses.
