3 Ways To Dress Up Your Windows. What's Your Pick?

September 08 2015   |   Katya Naidu

Planning to dress up your windows? You have different options to choose from, including blinds, fabric curtains and bamboo chicks. Before you make your choice, know the kind of light you would need in your room, level of privacy, the area you are using it in and also the look and feel.

To help you zero in on to a relevant choice, PropGuide decodes these three types of window decor.

Blinds

Blinds are fast catching up as the popular choice of window decor in modern homes, thanks to a variety of styles and designs available in this range. The types of blinds available in the market include Venetian, pleated, panel, roller or Roman blinds. Blinds have the quality of controlling insulation and filtering light well-suited to your need, due to the hard material they are made of and also the rolling mechanism. In terms of decor, they have the advantage of making a small room look bigger as these are minimal in structure.

Blinds score high in offering privacy, as they are made of opaque material. Hence, are well-suited for a ground-floor home, ensuring privacy from passersby. Additionally, if your home is situated in a humid area, bamboo window blinds can help reduce the heat level of the room, as it has the heat absorption capability.

In home interiors, blinds are mostly used for living room windows, but these are also used for the ceiling-to-floor windows in the bedrooms. If you have wooden furniture in your living area, blinds are the right choice to complement the look.

Chicks

Of late, chicks have become one of the most popular ways of dressing up large windows. One of the cheapest forms of window decor, these are used in rooms where owners prefer low or no natural light but regular flow of air. For instance, chicks are best suited for a baby's room, to let them take a comfortable nap in the afternoon.

They are also used in modern modular kitchens where light can be taken in  only when needed. Chicks are also well-suited for bathrooms, as these absorb the moisture and ensure microbes and other pests are kept at bay.

Chicks can be chosen to be a part of your furnishing, as these now come in a huge variety of designs, including geometric prints, florals and naturals, ethnic, and abstract patterns. They also come in made-to-order deep colours. Moreover, if you plan to create a cheat window, choose from wooden or metal finishes.

The good ol' curtains

Curtains are the default choice for windows in many homes. They give a comfortable, soft and welcoming look to a room. These are available in a wide variety of prints, colours and patterns, and can be purchased in pre-defined sizes or made-to-order. Easy to maintain, these come in varied price range and are replaceable.

When used in a room with sofa sets, soft furnishing and chairs, curtains could add elegance to your room.

Even with homes that are filled with blinds and chicks, the usage of curtains is necessary to complete the look. Many home makers prefer to mix and match the use of the chick and curtain, to regulate the light and air coming in the room. However, this form of decoration can only work, if you can match the colours of the walls, curtains and decorations to the tee.
