There are buildings, and then there are world famous buildings.

Ingenious architects have come up with timeless inventions across the globe, which have lived long enough to become a centre of attraction for tourists visiting that particular city or country. Ranging from contemporary to antique and futuristic, there are many different types of awe-inspiring constructions that can be found in various parts of the world.

Here, we discuss some of the most famous buildings in the world, which have been an inspiration for many.

Burj Khalifa, Dubai: The tallest building in the world easily towers atop the list of famous buildings in the world. Soaring well above 800 metres into Dubai's skyline, this architectural marvel took six years to construct, and houses 160 odd floors. Ever since its inception, Burj Khalifa has won several accolades as an exemplary skyscraper.

Petronas Towers, Malaysia: Soaring 170 metres over the futuristic city of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Petronas Towers are not one, but two world famous buildings. Once considered the tallest structures in the world (till 2004) , these towers are an important attraction for tourists visiting the city, and become an exhilarating sight in the evening, as displayed in the image above.

Taj Mahal, India: How could we leave the most famous building in India behind when it comes to celebrated structures around the world? The snow-white structure was a mausoleum constructed in Agra during the reign of the famous Emperor Shah Jahan. Completed in the year 1648, the Taj Mahal has truly stood the test of time, and remains India's most prized architectural possession.

Space Needle, Seattle: A short glance at this peculiar piece of architecture is sure to amaze you. The 184-metre tall Space Needle at Seattle was built for the World Fair held in 1962, and has since then been a major landmark of the city. Apart from the impressive design, this skyscraper has been constructed using high-end technology to withstand sudden gusts of wind as well as earthquakes.

Fallingwater: Fallingwater, the world-famous private residence of the Kaufmann family at Pennsylvania is also one of the most famous buildings in the world. This one-of-its-kind house, which is set on a waterfall has been designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, who is America's most sought after architect. Today, Fallingwater is a national landmark, and several architecture enthusiasts flock to Pennsylvania for touring this remarkable abode.
