The layout of an apartment plays a crucial role in a homebuyer’s decision to purchase the property or not. In case the layout of the property you have put out in the market for sale does not please the potential homebuyers, it could be a deal breaker.

But, what is a bad layout?

Certain apartment layouts are either different from the regular ones or are so old that they do not conform to the design sensibilities of the modern-day homebuyer. Here are certain features of a bad layout:

Secluded living room: A living room that is secluded from other rooms of the house can be turn off. Such rooms are generally connected to only the entrance and no other rooms in the house. This can be a cause of disconnect between the dwellers and the house. It keeps them away from the rest of the house making it discomforting.

Master bedroom close to the entrance: You would not want someone to have a full view of your master bedroom the moment they enter your house. A layout like that can be a deal breaker. It is making your most private room, most public.

Dining area in the centre of the house: Imagine going around the dining table to move to a room in the house. It can be distracting and a hindrance. A dining table kept right in the centre of the house is a bad layout. Each room should be easily accessible for a layout to be convenient.

No attached bathrooms: In many old constructions, bedrooms do not come with attached bathrooms. One has to move out of the bedroom to access bathrooms. This is seen as a bad layout. Nowadays, attached bathrooms are a must with each bedroom in the house.

No flow of rooms: A layout where there is no flow of rooms – where some part of the home is visible from each room – could be a deal breaker. If there is no flow of rooms, the people in one room could feel secluded or feel the lack of space. Flow of rooms make the house look bigger.
