Housing built by government bodies come at a much lower cost. In case you are looking for such an option, the time is ripe. Here's a look at what's on offer and how much would it cost you if you go in for the live schemes.

Delhi Development Authority Scheme, 2017

Since the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) started its housing activities in 1967, it has played a crucial role in providing more than a million houses to the people, and houses close to half the population of the national capital.

As for the DDA 2017 scheme, applications are being invited between June 30- August 11, 2017, and applications can be made both online and offline. Over 12,000 flats are on sale.

Here's the break up:

High-income group (HIG) flats

The spread: 20 flats at Vasant Kunj, 12 flats at Jasola, 1 each at at Sukhdev Vihar and Sarita Vihar, 20 at Dwarka, 3 at Pitampura, 7 at Paschim Vihar and Vikas Puri, 16 at Rohini.

The price: Rs 41 lakh to Rs 1.40 crore

The application cost: Rs 2 lakh

Middle-income group (MIG) flats

The spread: 10 at Dwarka, 23 at Rohini, 4 at Jahangirpuri, 3 at Narela, 31 at Mukharjee Nagar-II, 331 at Narela Pocket A-9, 2 at Kalyan Vihar.

The price: Rs 30- 70 lakh

The application cost: Rs 2 lakh

Low-income group (LIG) flats

The spread: 4 at Dwarka and Jasola, 77 at Rohini Sector 16 to 29, 404 at Loknayak Puram and Paschim Vihar, 10 at East off Loni Road, Kondli, Gharoli and Jafrabad, 36 at Narela, 378 at Dwarka Sector 23B, 4,349 at Rohini Sector 34 & 35, 3,612 at Narela Sector G-2 & G-8, 2,108 at Siraspur.

The price: Rs 15-29 lakh

The application cost: Rs 1 lakh

Janta flats

The spread: 42 Janta at Rohini, Mangolpuri and Sultanpuri, 41 at Nasirpuri and Dwarka, 21 at Raghubir Nagar, Vikas Puri, Hastsal, Shivji Encl and Pv, 9 at Anand Vihar, Kondli Gharoli, Todapur and Trilok Puri, 32 at Narela, 239 at Rohini Sector 4.

The price: Rs 6.70-15 lakh

The application cost: Rs 1 lakh

The scheme is linked to the credit-linked scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. After the lucky draw in the first week of July and August, possession of units would be granted in October, 2017.

Note: An applicant who already has a house in his name or his child/spouse's name in Delhi is ineligible to apply. Also, while both husband and wife can apply, only one will be allowed to retain the flat if both are declared winners in the lucky draw.

Tamil Nadu Housing Board Scheme (TNHB)

In 1961, the TNHB became a fully-fledged entity providing homes to all segments of buyers at affordable prices. The details of this year's housing scheme are as follows:  

The Ambatur housing scheme is offering 2,394 flats in the LIG segment available in stilt + 19 floors building. The project is located at Ambattur Scheme Phase-IV, Chennai. Applications are being invited on a first-come-first-serve basis. These are LIG accommodations of 627 sqft, and the cost is approximately Rs 20 lakh, with an initial deposit of Rs 1 lakh. The scheme started in January 2017.

A new housing scheme under the self-financing scheme of the TNHB for the sale of 510 2-BHK flats is also open. It is located at Mahakavi Bharati Nagar of Tamil Nadu. A total of 510 flats are up for grabs, each priced at Rs 28.33 lakh. This scheme is open till all flats are booked.

Also, 407 flats are available in TNHB KK Nagar Division housing scheme for LIG and MIG segments. The units meant for the LIG segment measure between 588–598 sqft and the rate per sqft is Rs 8,006. While the initial deposit is Rs 2,40,000 and the cost of the application is Rs 230.

Homes meant for the MIG segment measure about 819 sqft, are is available at Rs 7,913 per sqft. The initial deposit is Rs 3,41,000 and the cost of the application is Rs 340.

Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA)

The MHADA is coming up with 800 affordable houses on sale in July 2017. The localities include Tunga-Powai, Charkop, Vikhroli, Kandivli, Goregaon, and Mulund.  The advertisement for the same is expected to be out anytime during the first week of July. The flats will be allotted based on a lottery draw which is expected to take place in August this year.
