Air Connectivity Likely To Push NRI Investment In Punjab’s Adampur

Punjab’s Adampur until recently was not on the real estate map of the country. However, things may change for the better soon as connectivity gets a push. Under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme which is government’s push to regional connectivity and thereby economic development, Adampur is set to witness greater attention.

New developments

Enquiries about plots and independent homes in Adampur are on a rise, thanks to the success of the Rs 16.70-crore project. The maiden Delhi-Adampur flight started operations in early May 2018, after SpiceJet was awarded this route under the first round of UDAN. Constructed near the Adampur Air Force Station, about Rs 16 crore was spent on land acquisition while the remaining was spent on building road connectivity and ensuring water and electricity connection.

What has changed?

Time taken to travel between Delhi and Adampur is now down to 1.15 hours. This comes as a great relief to a large population of non-resident Indians (NRI) in Doaba which is known as the NRI belt of Punjab. Previously, the only option they had was to travel to Delhi via an Amritsar flight. The airline has confirmed, “Passengers from Adampur can now conveniently travel to a host of other cities both on SpiceJet's domestic as well as international network via multiple onward connections from Delhi.”

Property market

There is a pick up in the property market as well. In Adampur, home buyers have received the online mode of registering their properties quite well. At the sub-tehsil level, the region saw 399 online property registrations within two months after its trial in November 2017. In January 2018, additional chief secretary cum financial commissioner revenue said that the report is positive and the decks were clear for a state-wide rollout of the system.
