The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has launched its housing scheme for Mumbai recently. Here is all you need to know about the housing scheme:

What is on offer?

The body is selling 819 under-construction and ready-to-move-in units, sizing between 17.23 square metre (sqm) and 68.69 sqm. Of the whole lot, 66 units are ready-to-move-in while the remaining are under construction.

What is the price?

Of the total units, 192 homes are meant for the low-income group (LIG) , 281 for the middle-income group (MIG) , 338 for the high-income group, and eight for the economically weaker sections (EWS) . The cost of these units ranges between Rs 15.36 lakh and Rs 1.42 crore. Buyers will have to pay stamp duty over and above the cost of the unit.

Where are these units?

These units are spread in areas of Borivali, Chandivali, Goregaon West, Kandivali, Kurla, Lower Parel, Mankhurd, Malad, Powai, Sion and Vikroli. Areas, where the highest number of houses will be sold to buyers, include Tungwa, Powai where 168 under-construction units meant for the HIG category are priced at Rs 1.39 crore. At Kannamwar Nagar, Vikroli, 140 under-construction units meant for the LIG category, are priced at Rs 34.38 lakh. Shimploi, Kandivali West is the area where the highest number of ready-to-move-in units is concentrated. Meant for the HIG category, there units of 44.29 sqm will cost buyers approximately Rs 75 lakh.

What is the procedure?

These houses will be sold using a lottery draw on November 10. People can apply for the same between September 16 and October 23. The date for making payments has now been extended till October 26 as against the previous October 24 deadline.

If you are 18 years of age, have been living in Maharashtra for the past 15 years and do not own a residence from the MHADA (neither you nor your spouse or children) , you could apply for the new units.

As the entire process is online, buyers have to log on to http://lottery.mhada.gov.in. For registering on the site, you have to provide all your personal and income-related details.

After filling the application form, depending on the income category, buyers have to pay the earnest money deposit. This payment could be made through channels such as demand draft, debit card, credit card and internet banking.

To fill the online application form, buyers have to pay a non-refundable Rs 336 charge.
