Planning to paint your home, but want to go beyond the usual and experiment with colours?

As easy as it may seem, choosing the right colour to drape your house with is not child’s play. As if the myriad of colours and textures available in the market was not enough; matching them to create the perfect ambience for a home can confuse even the most tasteful of decorators.

To help you achieve the perfect colour scheme which matches your home’s design as well as décor, we have here some innovative home painting ideas which will help you pick the perfect hue for your home. Read on, and learn the art of playing with colours while painting your home:

An important point to consider while giving your house a new look is to have an outline of the colour scheme of the entire home ready with you, or at least in your mind before you start spattering the paint brush around your house. Painting your house one room at a time may lead to an unbalanced and distorted overall décor, even though each room may look great on its own. Hence, it is a good idea to plan before you begin painting.

Next, understand the basics of colours and what they signify. Colours range from cool and neutral ones like green, light blue, white and grey to warm, energetic and aggressive ones such as deep blue, orange, red and black. Soothing and cool shades of colours like blue and green should ideally be incorporated in personal areas like bedrooms, whereas bolder shades can be experimented with in areas like the common room, walkways and study rooms.

Perfectly matching various colours is also an important aspect of choosing paint colour. Matching different colours within a room helps avoid monotonous ambience which is usually caused by painting an entire room or the entire house in a single colour. A good way to do this is by mixing cool and warm shades together, or having an imaginative contrast between the colours.

When painting your home, always remember to accentuate the attractive areas like display panels around the house by painting them in bold shades, and use neutral and silencing tones on areas which you’d want to go unnoticed, such as a water pipe or unconcealed electrical wiring jutting out of a wall.
