March 06, 2019   |   Sunita Mishra

The citizens' verdict on cleanliness in India is out and top-rankers, Chattisgarh and Jharkhand have a reason to cheer. The Swachh Survekshan 2019 indicates the sense of competition among states to come clean — in quite the literal sense — might be taking over, helping them get better.

"There is a need to change the mindset of the people towards cleanliness as many people pay a lot of attention to personal hygiene and cleanliness at home but not to public cleanliness. The culture of cleanliness has to become an integral part of in the lives of the citizens," President Ram Nath Kovind said while releasing the list on March 6.
