The 3,000-year-old art of Feng Shui is very much in use today and you might even have inadvertently applied its principles for home improvement. As the basic principle of the art is to create balance of energies, are you sure your home, be it in ready to move in apartments in India or under construction properties in India, has the right kind of energies? According to Feng Shui, the color of your flat would determine the energy levels of your home. Even you have a personal Feng Shui color. So, by adhering to the principles of Feng Shui, you can live your life positively.

The art of Feng Shui has five elements -- Earth, Fire, Wood, Metal and Water. Each element denotes a predominant energy and can be expressed in various ways. Even your home has its own Feng Shui element that is determined through a Feng Shui bagua, a tool that divides your home into eight sections to ascertain and map the energy levels of its surroundings.

Another specific element is your personal Feng Shui birth element, which is determined by the Feng Shui element of your birth year. Feng Shui may be an old and complex art but the functions of the elements of Feng Shui are pragmatic and practical in nature. A discussion on the Wood element can, for example, can explain the importance of balacing energies. Fire is the outcome of burning wood and it can be perceived in two ways: wood element nourishes fire but fire destroys the wood. Similarly, an axe can cut through wood, which can signify that metal destroys wood as well. Water helps the wood grow and better the quality of the soil, better the growth of the tree would be, which means that water and earth nourish wood.

Likewise, the balance of elements is perfect only if all the Feng Shui elements are present in the right proportion. Even the human body is composed of all these elements, and knowing our birth element can help us create surroundings that can nourish our energy and give our homes the perfect balance of elements for the well-being of our family.

These elements of Feng Shui are expressed as colors, which means some colors are good for you and can nourish your energy while some drain your energy and weaken you. So, if your Feng Shui birth element is wood, you would want to avoid strong fire and metal Feng Shui element colors.

Here are a few colors according to the elements:

WOOD -- Green, brown

FIRE -- Bright yellow, orange

Metal -- Silver, grey

Water -- Blue, black

Earth -- Light yellow, maroon.

So, the next time you’re up for home décor, you might not want to color your home grey before checking out your birth element color. So, let colors add life to your flat and let there be light!
