Deck Up Your Home Office

November 08 2013   |   Proptiger

Working from home can be distracting and challenging if one does not have the proper environment needed to concentrate and focus. Hence, it is a good idea to have a home office, or a dedicated space for working within the premises of your home. The concept of home offices in India is rapidly gaining popularity, though it has been prevalent for quite some time in other parts of the world.

An ideal home office design should be motivating, imaginative and peaceful. There are numerous ways in which you can deck up your home office and achieve a professional workplace-like environment in the comfort of your home. Here, we have for you a list of some of the most effective ways to design your home office:

First of all, you need to choose a space which is suitable to be used as a workplace. Pick a quiet corner of your house as your home office, so as to minimize distractions. A vacant room or an area around the living room which is rarely stepped in can make for the perfect workspace in your home. Corners of large rooms can also serve as an excellent area to design your home office.

Next, you need to pay attention to the furniture and equipment; especially if you plan to spend long hours in your home office. A bad seating posture can lead to health problems, so ensure that you have the correct seating arrangement. Avoid using unused chairs lying in the home (which may not be suitable to sit on for long hours at a stretch) and make sure you arrange for a chair and a table which enable an upright seating posture. The placement of furniture is just as important as home office design.

Make sure the lighting conditions are suitable for working, as is the case in any office. Too bright or too dim levels of light can strain your eyes, so be sure to adjust the lighting in a way that would be convenient for you.

Avoid clutter in your home office by creating storage spaces out of empty walls. Installing cabinets and shelves on empty walls will not only add on to your available space, it will also enhance your home office design. You can also avoid clutter caused by computers and peripherals by concealing wiring and installing multi-plug units, which eradicate the need to carry wires around the home.
