A balcony is an essential part of a household, as it is the only area of the house where you can step out to enjoy the fresh breeze from the comfort of your own home. That said, a balcony is much more than just an open space in the house. It is a place where you can relax, unwind and take a break from living indoors. Be it enjoying a whiff of cool air during summers or the warm sunshine of winters, the balcony is the perfect place to relax. Photo Credit: Liga Eglite/Flickr

Look and Feel: The first thing to do while giving your balcony a makeover is to have a basic plan of the look and feel of the space. You can choose a particular theme or a particular colour scheme that goes well with your home’s existing décor, and work on it so that the balcony not only stands out, but also compliments your home. Foliage: You must have often heard about the positivity that plants bring into our lives, and likewise, adding greenery is one of the best ways to enliven your balcony. Pick up some of your favourite plants, arrange them in beautiful flower pots along the balcony and watch them bloom in your very own home. Besides, plants and flowers also lend an enchanting fragrance to your home. Of course, don’t forget to water your plants from time to time! Photo Credit: Prayitno/Flickr

Seating: Adding seating to a balcony not only makes it more welcoming, it also allows you to spend more time with loved ones and transforms it into an open-air living room. And it really doesn’t matter how much available space you have in your balcony; anything from a few cushions and a rug to stools and a coffee table or even lounge chairs can serve the purpose, depending on the size of your balcony. Decorations: There are a wide variety of ways in which you can design your balcony, and you can get as creative as you want while decorating your balcony. From wreaths and lamps along the walls to centrepieces, candles and water fountains, there are several things that you can adorn your balcony with. Choose focal points for decorations, and ensure that the furniture is placed in a way that the decorations are easily visible.
