DMRC Takes Charge Of Gurgaon Rapid Metro From October 22
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has taken over the charge of operations of the Rapid Metro network in Gurugram from October 22, 2019 night. The services on the 11.6-km-long corridor will continue to operate as per the normal schedule.
Earlier, the Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC) has ordered bankruptcy-hit IL&FS to continue the operations of the Gurgaon Rapid Metro till October 15, 2019, while directing that an audit of the debt incurred in running the operations of the network be done by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) within that period.
The HC had passed the ruling while hearing the matter related to the termination of service contract between the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) , the Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Limited (RMGL) and the Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon South Limited (RMGSL) , the two IL&FS-floated special purpose vehicles (SPVs) managing the operations.
The Rapid Metro is a fully-elevated rapid transit system with stations at Cyber City, DLF Phase 2, DLF Phase 3, NH-8 and Golf Course Road up to Sector 55-56, among others, and provides connectivity to the Delhi Metro from the Sikanderpur Metro Station. With the operator IL&FS staring at bankruptcy, services on the Rapid Metro could face closure.
The IL&FS subsidiaries had served a 90-day termination notice to the HUDA earlier over breach of contract which came to end on September 7. Following this, the HUDA moved the HC, challenging the validity of termination notice and sought courts directions on continuity of the Metro link.
