Famous Works of Antoni Gaudi
Antoni Gaudi was one of the most legendary architects in the world. Born in Riudoms, Catalonia, on 25 June 1852, Gaudi is regarded as the figurehead of the Catalan Modernism style of architecture. His unique style and individuality is reflected in all of his works, with the most prominent ones located in the Catalan capital of Barcelona.
Sagrada Familia The Sagrada Familia is a Roman Catholic Church in Barcelona that combines Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms. Although incomplete, the church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the greatest and most famous works of Antoni Gaudi. The construction of Sagrada Familia began in 1882, however Gaudi became involved in the construction only in 1883, devoting the last years of his life till 1926, to the project.
Casa Vicens Also located in Barcelona, Casa Vicens is a family residence designed by Antoni Gaudi for industrialist Manuel Vicens. Casa Vicens is one of the most important and early works of Gaudi and was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2005 under the ‘Works of Antoni Gaudi’. The house exhibits the Moorish influence and is constructed with rough red bricks, undressed stones and coloured ceramic tiles.
Park Güell Also a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites ‘Works of Antoni Gaudi’ list, Park Güell is a garden complex located in the Gràcia district of Barcelona. It is one of the largest architectural works in Southern Europe that is designed to offer a tranquil environment for its visitors. Park Guell is situated on the hill of El Carmel from where one can enjoy excellent panoramic views.
