Gurgaon Sets Up Panel To Address Home Buyers' Grievances
With the rising number of real estate transactions, number of related complaints also grow — more so for a city such as Gurgaon, which has remained at the centre of real estate developments in the past. This is precisely the reason why the Haryana state government in September 2015 set up an Allottee Grievance Redressal Forum (AGRF) to address property transaction-related complaints. Since then, the AGRF had carried out four meetings and has solved over 150 complaints.
Now, the redressal system is going to get even more efficient.
On February 10, a seven-member sub-panel under the AGRF has been set up to address delays in property possessions and violation of bilateral agreements. The sub-committee will meet once in a month for addressing consumer issues. The sub-committee will also hold regular meetings to monitor whether developers are abiding by the rules; the sub-committee will then come up with a report to AGRF for further action.
“In view of a large number of complaints, mostly related to delay in possession and violation of bilateral agreements, the sub-committee of AGRF has been constituted. The committee will conduct a meeting every month to hear out buyers and address their grievances,” Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Hardeep Singh, who is also the chairperson of AGRF, was quoted as saying by ET Realty.
Earlier, the Gurgaon Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) had made certain changes in the licence renewal norms to ensure developers are quick to resolve home buyers' concerns. The department last month made it mandatory for real estate developers in the Millennium City to share with the AGRF the number of consumer complains pending against them. If a developer shows a poor track record in this regard, his licence will not be renewed. These homebuyer-friendly measures are likely to cure Gurgaon property market of many ills by fixing accountability.
