To fast track approvals to residential projects, the Union Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA) Ministry is working with other ministries to create a mechanism. This is in line with the Central government's efforts to enhance ease of doing business.

Speaking at a workshop on Model State Urban Affordable Housing and Habitat Policy, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said that the HUPA was engaging with ministries like Environment and Forests, Urban Development, Defence, Civil Aviation, etc, for fast tracking of NOCs (no-objection certificates) to residential projects. A meeting is slated to be held today in this regard, news agency PTI reported.

On the Centre's Housing for All Scheme, the minister said that the private sector should also play a key role in providing affordable homes. The ministry has constituted a committee to draft model documents for undertaking affordable housing on a PPP (public-private partnership) basis, the reported said quoting Naidu.
