Indians Will Take Pay Cut To Avoid Long Commute, Says Survey

That the choked roads in major Indian cities have a killer impact on us humans is no hidden fact. However, things have come to such a pass now that many of the working professionals would even agree to take a pay cut if they get a job closer at home.

According to a recent survey by professional networking company LinkedIn, 78 per cent respondents said they desired a shorter commute time, with 26 per cent willing to take a pay cut for it.

This sentiment of desiring a shorter commute was the highest in India among 11 countries globally, the survey said.

Inefficient public transport has only made matters worse.

While about 48 per cent respondents felt that their commute time had increased in the past one year, around 60 per cent felt their city transportation systems frequently delay them to office.

Long commute hampering productivity

Shorter commute meant more productivity for professionals. Around 47 per cent of the Indians feel more productive at work with a shorter commute time, and 48 per cent preferred a shorter commute so that they don't get tired. Most would like to use the time saved by avoiding long commutes in fitness-related activities.

Long commutes must be compensated

About 42 per cent respondents said they would be willing to consider longer commute provided their income is raised by over 20 per cent. The survey revealed that 33 per cent would opt for a longer commute if given transportation, a promotion or title increase. While 40 per cent said they could travel long distances for the “right” job, 31 per cent felt they could compromise on shorter commute if they worked for a brand they admired.
