November 03 2016   |   Sunita Mishra

The infrastructure growth of Punjab's Mohali has been momentous, leading the city to turn into an information technology hub. However, many upcoming infrastructure projects will take things to another level.

A look at some of the projects that would make property in Mohali even more lucrative:

Chandigarh-Mohali Metro Rail Project

Last year, the governments of Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana signed a pact on developing an integrated mass transport system, which got an in-principal approval from the Centre. The administration here has begun the process to form a Special Purpose Vehicle that will execute the Rs 12,000-crore mass rapid metro system project with two lines.

The Red Line will start from Chandigarh's Capitol Complex, Sector 1, and pass through Sectors 17, 22, 35, 43, Phase 7 (Mohali) , Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan (Mohali) and will continue till Aerocity, Mohali. The total length of the line will be 12.47 km. The Blue Line will start from Mullanpur in Punjab and will run till Sector 21, Panchkula. The total length of this line would be 25.08 km.

The GMADA Expressway

This Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMRDA) -proposed expressway will link Mohali with Lalru, Banur, Kharar and Mullanpur, and the planned developments at Baddi. Running close to Mullanpur, Kharar, SAS Nagar, Banur and Lalru, the expressway will offer an alternative route to the Kharar-Landran-Banur-Tepla Road.

The Mohali-Phagwara Expressway

A stretch of the proposed GMADA Expressway near Kharar will run in an east-west alignment to lead to Phagwara, an industrial area with sugar, textile and starch mill factories. This stretch will offer a high-speed, high-capacity expressway link between the GMADA area and other cities and towns in Jalandhar district.

PR 8

This proposed major arterial road running towards south-east is parallel to the Airport Road. It is an extension of the proposed road between Sectors 84 and 100 in SAS Nagar.

Airport link

The development authority has planned a road that will shorten the distance from the old terminal in Chandigarh by at least three km.
