#InternationalWomensDay: What Women Want In Their Homes

March 08 2016   |   Shweta Talwar

Home buying is a collective family decision. But each member, including the woman of the house, has his or her own expectations from the home. These are the factors that help make choices.

Locality

While location is one of the common factors every household considers while purchasing a house, it holds prime importance especially for housewives. A locality is considered good if it has all the required social infrastructure – grocery shops, medical store, hospital, and bank & ATMs, among other things. This infrastructure is a must to fulfil the daily needs of a family.

Kitchen

Kitchen, indeed, is a key area of the house that a woman monitors closely. Women have their own preferences for open or closed kitchens, their design, as well as in-built appliances that come along.

Security

Security is an important criterion not only for single woman home buyers but also those living with families. For instance, a working woman with children who have to stay alone at home during the day, or a husband-wife duo where husband travels frequently, a secured locality is a must.

Distance from workplace

The distance between workplace and the location of the home is another point of consideration for working women. To maintain a work-life balance, women tend to opt for areas that are close to their office premises or are easily accessible by public transport. This can be a plus in case of family emergencies, too.
