LET'S GO HOME : PROPTIGER PLEDGES TO FIGHT HOMELESSNESS !

December 17 2014   |   Proptiger

On the 17th of October 2014, in order to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, PropTiger.com confirmed a CSR engagement with the Mother NGO for Homeless. The NGO utilizes the services of the New Delhi based St. Stephen's Hospital to carry out relief and rescue services for the homeless people in and around Delhi NCR. Named Let's Go Home, the initiative is aimed at curbing the menace of homelessness in the country. As of 2013, we had 2 million homeless people in India. As a real estate firm that helps buyers through the entire process of buying their dream homes, we wanted to extend our services to those who cannot afford to dream of a home at all. And Let's Go Home is a small step in that direction.

The Homeless Helpline and Rescue Services of St. Stephen's Hospital provides lifesaving support to the sick, homeless and destitute people living on the streets of Delhi. As of now, it covers the entire city in three shifts. This rescue service functions as a link between the homeless people and the St. Stephen's hospital.

The Rescues Services has a telephonic helpline which works 24×7, around the year. There is a team of trained rescuers, at least one male and one female in every shift. The rescue team reaches the locations indicated by the caller and provides first aid and if medical help is required, also takes the patient to the hospital. At time the team takes help from the Police to rescue mentally challenged individuals. During winters, warm clothing and/or bubble sheets are provided to the needy. Also, during the summer season, water and shelter are provided. For those who need long term care, the rescue team strives to look for a permanent shelter. Presently the Rescue services and helpline are a team of 9 people. Funding is acquired through the income generated by providing consultancy services, partial support from the Community Mental Health project, fund raising by volunteers and the support from the patient's welfare society. Between JANUARY 2014 and SEPTEMBER 2014, the rescue team has rescued and helped a total of 880 people in need.

With the contribution from PropTiger, the Mother NGO for Homeless will extend its services to Noida and other areas around it. Thereafter, a team of two rescuers and one driver, along with a vehicle for one shift of the most crucial hours of the day i.e. from 6 PM to 2 AM in night, will start operating. This will also help to strengthen the outreach response time of the rescue team.

We thank Mother NGO for Homeless and St. Stephen's Hospital for collaborating with proptiger.com and wish them all the best in their noble endeavors!
