Grosvenor House: Architectural Marvel In The Heart Of London
Grosvenor House hotel is owned by the Sahara Group, and it offers value accommodation in the heart of London. The property was one of the largest private townhouses on Park Lane. This London landmark, the Grosvenor House, has now been put up for sale. Among its other ventures, the Sahara Group invests in real estate in India too.
In 1738, the property was sold to the third Duke of Beaufort for £8,000, who also bought some of the surrounding land to protect his privacy. Grosvenor House is situated right in the heart of London. The hall is located within five minutes walking distance from the London School of Economics, close to Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Oxford Street and the West End, and offers self-catering studio apartments.
Grosvenor House is a perfect amalgamation of good facilities, unbeatable location and excellent value. Each studio apartment here has its own kitchenette, bathroom, beds, TV laundry and dining area. The kitchens are equipped with combi-oven, kettle, pots, pans, crockery, hob and cutlery. The bathrooms are provided with shower, basin and toilet. To add to the aesthetics of the place, artificial fireplaces are built, but heated by electricity or gas.
The building is more known for the basement rather than its rooms. Two stories below ground was a colossal ice rink. Queen Elizabeth had learnt to skate here. The ice rink was later dismantled to give way to the UK's largest conference floor.
The blocks here look similar. The idea was to build two large blocks of residential flats for the transatlantic wealthy. The southern block was planned to be a residential complex. The northern part of the building is remodeled into a lavish hotel. The overall floor plan of the hotel is H-shaped. The building was embroiled in disputes, as its eight stories stood considerably higher than all the grand mansions in the area of that time. But eventually people calmed down when a noted architect was brought in to mellow the design.
