Now, Ludhiana Residents Can Get Property Information Online
Residents in Ludhiana can now look for property-related information online as the Municipal Corporation (MC) office has introduced a link on its website. Residents could now get information about all property tax returns filed, along with other details, about a particular property by just filing in their property tax return number or property’s unique identity number. After filing in the details, the property owners will get access to the information on return amount filed year-wise, and the area where the property is located, along with complete address.
This move will also allow MC officials to keep a check on the taxpayers in the city.
The MC is already making unique identity numbers mandatory for 17 blocks in the city, and all the services are being connected with the number. There are over four lakh properties in Ludhiana, the geographic information system (GIS) survey conducted by the MC.
In 2017, the MC had introduced the use of debit cards to pay their property tax dues, making available swipe machines at the office. These machines have been installed in the Suvidha centres at all the four zonal MC offices.

Formula to evaluate property taxThe simple formula to compute property tax in a residential area is Collector rate of property plus construction cost (Rs 500 per sq ft on covered area) less depreciation (10 per cent of construction cost) = total cost.
For example, if a person buys a plot spread over an area of 200 square yards, then the property tax liability would be Rs 601 with Rs 20 lakh collector rate. The amount fixed for construction area cost is Rs 500 per square feet. Depreciation at the rate of 10 per cent will be deducted from the total cost including construction area and 5 per cent of the actual amount. For the final value, 0.5 per cent of tax will be levied on the annual value of the property. Thus, the amount will come out to be Rs 601.
