Can you imagine a situation where the electricity of a 21-storey building goes down! No. With the real estate developers reaching for the skies, the Indian skyline has undergone a major transformation. To aid this transformation, the Indian generator industry has come to play a significant role in providing much-needed power back-up to these dream residential projects. In the 21st century, it is difficult to imagine a 21-storey building without power back up.

In the last few years, the skyline of India has changed intensely. The way generators have helped in changing the housing real estate scenario in India can be evidently seen through the Indian skyline. In metropolitan cities, with the scarcity of space, many real estate developers started reaching for the skies that led to high-rise buildings, which is becoming a common model nowadays.

With the changing time and evolution in the way of contemporary living, skyscrapers and lifestyle apartments have become an achievable object from an aspiration. In the rapidly changing scenario and constant development of skyscrapers, diesel generators have come to play a key role for the luxurious high-rises, lifestyle apartments and cluster complexes. The need of power back-up is a must for high-rises where usage of elevators is a mandatory process without which the residents will be immobile. Developers make sure that there will be power at all times so that people can reach their homes comfortably and safely.

With the constant growth in India into the housing sector, the supply and usage of power remain a major concern. Diesel generators bring in on-demand electricity to power India's rising dreams and aspirations. Knowing of all the hazardous facts related to generators, developers can't opt for a housing project which lacks power back-up for the consumers. Instead, they are constantly developing green buildings with energy efficient fixtures to limit the harm. There are also environmental-friendly diesel generators available in the market, which can be a great choice for developers. Because of all these continual advances, developers can construct buildings and complexes that touch the sky without bothering about board line power failures. But, eliminating generators is surely not in their list.

The factors that have led realtors to depend on generators

The dependence of real estate developers on generators is two-fold – necessity and luxury

Necessity focused dependence: Residential housing complexes where most of the buildings are seven-storey plus will house a generator as a necessity to make the movements of occupants convenient and easy. Another area where necessity comes as the prime factor in installation of generators is that of places with extreme weather conditions. The places where it is imperative to have air conditioner and heater functional always. Here, generators act as on-demand power suppliers to keep one's home cool or warm, depending on the location. Areas that are experiencing huge power cuts, developers constantly aim to provide consumers with at least 50 per cent power back up to their daily requirements.

Luxury-focused dependence: There are certain projects which are strictly based on luxury for a specific set of buyers. These residential projects have opulent homes which demand electricity 24x7 all 365 days. In these housing projects, the question of power outages or extreme weather does not come into the picture. These luxurious projects rely on generators, irrespective of the situation.

What is the minimum generator capacity essential for powering residential housing projects?

Generally, the capacity of diesel generators needed for powering residential housing projects would largely depend on numerous factors like sum of housing units to be powered in the complex and what is current power situation in the location. Smaller housing like four-storey buildings will require a minimum 100 – kVA diesel generator. Though, a luxury project would require several units of diesel generators ranging from 750 kVA to 1500 kVA, depending on the number of buildings and floors.
