Punjab To Launch Online Property Registration System
To bring transparency and convenience for homebuyers, the Punjab government had earlier rolled out a pilot project for online property registration in Mohali district. The success of the project has prompted the state government to launch it across 22 districts in Punjab.
It is worth mentioning here that after Maharashtra, Punjab would be the second state that would be moving online for property registration, and would allow Aadhaar-based verification for the process. According to the plan, the state would replace the age-old property registration system by the end of the current financial year i.e. March 2018.
According to official sources, over 1,000 property registrations have been done online through the official portal whereas no manual registrations were recorded in past 15 days. The new property registration system has been implemented keeping in mind the cyber security, and to keep a check on fraudulent deals through biometric authentication. The new process would eliminate the possibility of the citizens being misled on the collector rates, various exemptions and their calculation method.
How to go about it?
Buyers who intend to register online can visit NGDRS portal and create a login. After feeding in the property details, user can check the applicable collector rates, exemptions, etc., as prompted by the system. Every time a login is initiated, an alert is sent on the registered mobile number. The system is designed for automatic calculation of stamp duty, registration fees and other charges, based on collector rates. One can opt for SMS alert for data submission, appointment and completion of registration. Also, the online appointment system gives flexibility to the citizens to choose their date of appointment for the registration.
