Alarmed by a large number of fraudulent transactions and investments in the real estate sector, the Union government is thinking of making Aadhaar mandatory for property registrations. At a meeting held in Chandigarh recently, the officials from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIAI) said the aim was to identify "the buyers" and keep the track of the money entering the real estate industry. The Centre is looking at Aadhaar as a source of weeding out transactions by NRIs and foreigners. With a coverage of no less than 97 per cent, Aadhaar cards will help the Centre track individuals who purchase properties in India.

The Haryana government on Monday amended the area norms for grant of licence in low and medium potential towns and to regulate the development of urbanised sector in a harmonious manner. Town and Country Planning Department official said the amendment had been made to encourage and increase participation of individual landowners, farmers and local developers in the process of planned urbanisation of these potential towns. The Union Government has identified 150 critical projects to augment infrastructure in coastal areas under its ambitious Sagarmala project. This was stated by Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari recently. He said about Rs 70,000 crore had been lined up for various projects under Sagarmala and would be spent on development of major ports. As many as 13 states and union territories are involved in Sagarmala initiative which will be implemented across India's 7,500-km coastline. Read more
The Noida Authority recently reviewed designs and plans for the city's proposed business and entertainment hub on a 25-acre plot in Sector 94 that will house commercial spaces, entertainment zones, a habitat centre and residential highrises. The Maharashtra government has drawn up a "comprehensive mobility plan worth Rs 4 lakh crore for Greater Mumbai". The project aims to overhaul the current transportation network in the city and create seamless connectivity between various modes of transport. This was stated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at a press conference in Mumbai today. Read more
