#RealtyNewsRoundUp: Mumbai Buildings May Soon Have Terrace-High Elevators

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on November 20 decided to allow developers and housing societies to install lifts up to the terrace of a building. "Currently, due to an ambiguity in the Development Control Rules (DCR) , builders used to install lifts only up to the top floor. Now, the civic chief has given his consent to erect lift shaft up to the terrace," a senior official said.

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) and the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-Delhi) have joined hands to work on measures to stabilise the Ghazipur landfill site. The move was aimed at averting recurrence of the recent cave-in incident, the civic body said. A part of the massive dump tumbled in September, killing two people.

Here is good news for applicants of the Delhi Development Authority's (DDA's) Rohini Scheme of 1981. The DDA has proposed to relax an allotment norm which hinged on the size or nature of a plot or flat owned by the applicants. Earlier, applicants who individually or jointly owned plots or land sizing less than 65 square metres (sqm) were eligible for the allotment while those who owned a house or plot allotted by the DDA on an area of even less than 65sqm were not eligible.

Biodiversity in India's iconic Western Ghats is facing a threat from forest loss, encroachment and conversion, says a report by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) . The report also put the hills in the "significant-concern" category in its new outlook in the conservation prospects of natural World Heritage sites.
