The government has given in-principle approval for 19 new airports, of which some would be developed through public- private partnership, the Lok Sabha was informed. Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju on December 21 told the Lower House that the country's civil aviation sector was growing leaps and bounds ─ the number of aircraft in the country was around 548 compared to about 395 in 2014, he said.

The highest decision-making body of the Delhi Development Authority on December 21 approved simplification of the land pooling policy in the national capital and the urban body's role as being a facilitator and planner only. Originally, the land pooled under the policy was to be transferred to the DDA, which would act as the developer entity and undertake further sectoral planning and development of infrastructure on the land pooled.

With public interest litigations (PILs) being moved before it against unauthorised constructions on a daily basis, a miffed Delhi High Court on December 21 asked the municipal corporations of the city why they took action only after a matter came under the court scanner. The court said it was mulling passing orders that the corporation officials be made to reimburse from their salary the money paid by innocent buyers for such buildings.

The Supreme Court-appointed Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority on December 21 rapped the municipal corporations of the city and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) over industrial units "illegally" operating in residential areas of Delhi. EPCA Chairman Bhure Lal while seeking a list of such illegal units said the SC-mandated panel would not hesitate to "seal" these units if necessary steps were not taken soon.
