The government will soon come up with a policy on management of landfill sites in the country. The development assumes significance after the cave-in incident at the Ghazipur landfill site in east Delhi in which two persons were killed, triggering a debate on safety concerns and waste management. According to officials, the permissible height for a garbage dump is 20 metres.

The Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea in which a property owner had claimed that the land on which his house was built was never in possession of the government. The high court made it clear that if a land parcel is acquired by the government, it belongs to the state, even if possession if the same has not been taken.

Meanwhile, the Irrigation & Flood Control Department of the Delhi government has appointed executive engineers as nodal officers to ensure its properties remain encroachment-free. According to the department, the nodal officer will ensure that the government's properties under his or her jurisdiction are protected from encroachment. The nodal officers have also been directed to keep proper record of each and every property or assets under their jurisdiction.

The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has planned to create at least a dozen ring-fenced entities (RFEs) for the execution of "remunerative projects" such as water and power supply, transport and a host of others in the upcoming capital city, Amaravati. The overall lAmaravati development is projected to cost Rs 42,000 crore in the next tree-four years.

The Delhi government has decided to re-develop the websites of all its 180 departments by taking several steps, including providing Hindi content, to make them user-friendly. The information technology department of the government has asked all secretaries and principal secretaries to nominate a nodal officer for coordination with it to re-develop the websites.
