Maharashtra has left other states way behind in the number of registrations under the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) . Against over 18,000 ongoing projects registered in the country, the state has registered nearly 12,900 ongoing projects with the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority. Of these, 9,176 projects have already been issued certificates by the authority.

The Centre is considering a plan to acquire surplus land parcels lying with public sector enterprises to develop housing projects and townships under the Prime Minister's affordable housing scheme. The government is currently in consultation with the state governments and Union Territories to collect data in this regard.

The government will be building 2.17 lakh more houses for urban poor in six states, including Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Assam. The new numbers take the total tally to about 26 lakh homes which have to be built across the country under a Central scheme. A Central assistance of Rs 40,597 crore has been approved for construction of these houses.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has imposed fines on colleges and malls in Delhi that generate huge quantity waste and fail to treat sewage for not complying with environmental laws. The NGT imposed an environment compensation of Rs 25,000 each on Vivekananda Mahila College, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies and Shyam Lal College. On the other hand, a penalty of Rs 1.5 lakh has been imposed on Cross River Mall. While a fine of Rs 1 lakh has been slapped on Mahatta Towers, a fine of Rs 50,000 has been imposed on Aggarwal Fun City Mall.
