The Maharashtra government told the Bombay High Court that it had taken back over 38 sq km of land given on a lease or occupancy basis to private entities following breach of terms of allotment. An affidavit by the Department of Revenue and Forests states that nearly 1,513 sq km was allotted to 81,141 entities and 5,119 cases were reported in which land was being misused.
Work on the ambitious 22-km Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) , which will link Mumbai with Navi Mumbai, is expected to begin by the end of this financial year. As many as 20 companies, including Reliance Infra and L&T, have submitted bids for the Rs 17,500-crore project.
In a relief to 400 families at Kalyan near Mumbai, the Bombay High Court stayed an order issued by the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) commissioner for cancellation of development permission granted in 2002 for a large residential complex. The civic body had acted on a complaint made by an RTI activist, accusing the developer of violating the Urban Land Ceiling Act.
