In a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 26, heads of the non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and the housing finance companies (HFCs) discussed how to address the liquidity issues looming over the sector. Concerns on this front emerged after IL&FS defaulted on a series of debt repayments. After the meeting, they said the PM had assured necessary measures would be taken to help the sector come out of the woods.

A pilot project for booking cars through two major cab aggregators at two Delhi Metro stations was launched on December 26. Based on the success of the pilot project, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation may allot spaces at almost all Metro stations to the cab aggregators for setting up kiosks to assist commuters. About 400 such zones have already been identified at 210 stations for that purpose.

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) may take its Phase-II project to Tirumazhisai, where a satellite township has been in the making for two decades. If the plan is materialised, the Metro would go past engineering colleges in the region, proving major relief to students. Planned at an estimated cost of Rs 2,160 crore, the township will have 12,000 flats on 311 acres of land of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board.

Residents of the newly constituted 61 urban-local bodies in the state will have to pay five per cent more as property tax as the Telangana State Property Tax Board has approved a hike in rates. As many as four to five lakh properties would be impacted with the increase.
