#RealtyNewsRoundUp: PMAY Far From Meeting Target
Nearly three years into the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) for urban areas which promised housing for all by 2022, barely eight per cent, or three lakh, of the 40.6 lakh houses targeted, have been constructed so far. In rural areas, only 30 per cent, or 28.8 lakh houses, have been completed against the 95.4-lakh targeted.

Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia presented Rs 53,000-crore Budget for fiscal year 2018-19 on March 22, with emphasis on environment, health, education and water. While launching several green measures, the state government has also proposed to set aside Rs 1,000 crore for repair and maintenance of smaller roads owned by the municipal corporations of the city.

The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited has cut electricity supply to four Amrapali high-rises ─ Silicon City, Platinum, Zodiac and Princely Estate ─ over pending power bills amounting to over Rs 5 crore. This has led to residents protesting against the builder, which is already in deep trouble owing to non-completing of several of its housing projects.

On the occasion of the World Water Day that is celebrated on March 22 every year, Centre for Science and Environment-backed Down To Earth magazine has claimed that Bengaluru is among the 10 cities in the world that might be on the verge of an imminent acute water crisis, similar to the one faced by South Africa Cape Town, where all the “taps may start running dry by June-July this year”.
