Pune has received top ranking in the Ease of Living Index launched by Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on August 13, with Navi Mumbai coming in second and Delhi languishing at 65. The maiden survey by the Centre included 111 cities, and the ranking are based on four parameters, governance, social institutions, economic and physical infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Melbourne has been dislodged by Vienna for the first time at the top of the Economist Intelligence Unit’s global liveability index, strengthening the Austrian capital’s claim to being the world’s most pleasant city to live in. Osaka, Calgary and Sydney completed the top five in the survey while London ranked 48th this year.

Rajasthan's Jodhpur and Marwar railway stations have emerged the cleanliest among the major stations in the country in the latest round of cleanliness assessment study. None of the major stations in the country found a place in the top 10 list, except Delhi’s Anand Vihar, which got fifth position. New Delhi station was ranked 39th, a position it had held last year, too.

To check the spread of unauthorised colonies, the UP government has issued directions to all the development authorities in the state. Housing development agencies in the state have been asked to confiscate properties of developers responsible for illegal colonies and ask them to bear the cost of providing basic infrastructure in these colonies.

In a major violation of norms laid under the real estate law, Navi Mumbai town planning authority City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has advertised its housing projects without registering them with the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) . A consumer body has filed now a complaint with the MahaRera, seeking to penalise the Cidco for advertising 11 housing projects without registering with the regulator.
