#RealtyNewsRoundUp: Shillong Becomes The 100th Smart City

Meghalaya capital of Shillong has been selected as the 100th smart city. The city will be funded and developed under the Modi-led government’s flagship Smart Cities Mission. 

Meanwhile, talking about smart cities, Gujarat’s Surat has been recognised for showcasing "great momentum" in the implementation of projects under the mission at the recently held India Smart Cities Award 2018. Bhopal and Ahmedabad were also selected in the Innovative Idea category for their transformative approach towards sustainable integrated development. Also, nine smart cities, including the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) , bagged awards for innovative and successful projects in seven categories.

For the south Delhi redevelopment project, over 16,500 trees will be cut. Under the redevelopment plan, accommodations will be constructed for central government employees. Of this, 11,000 trees would be cut just in Sarojini Nagar area. The Forest Department had given the permission to cut nearly 17,000 trees to make way for redevelopment of central government accommodations in the area. According to the Environmental Impact Assessment report, around 1,454 trees would be felled in Nauraji area and 3,906 trees in Netaji Nagar.

To decongest some of the crowded markets and ease the parking system, the Mumbai traffic police department is planning to implement an "odd-even" parking scheme for vehicles. The department has filed an affidavit in the Bombay High Court (HC) on behalf of the Joint Commissioner, Traffic with the proposal. The odd-even system will be allowed on a pilot basis, for vehicles in the Kalbadevi market area in South Mumbai.

The Connaught, a premium hotel in Lutyen's Delhi, has been acquired by Tata's Indian Hotel Company Limited (IHCL) in an e-auction conducted by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on June 20. The licensing rights have been granted for a period of 33 years.
