Bollywood's Top 5 Haunted Houses To Inspire Your Halloween Plans

October 30, 2015   |   Proptiger

It's a cold, dark night, the fog is blinding and you are all alone at home. To make matters worse, a common phenomenon occurs - power cut. Windows creek and you hear the door knock. Clueless, you move in the dark to get to the door. The drama unfolds with a "BOO” from a bunch of friends! It terrifies you as hell, but it's Halloween time when scaring people is a ritual. In fact, the scarier it is, the better.

But what can beat real life scares better than Bollywood films, which have given us chilling experiences, hair-raising scenes and endless goosebumps? Haunted houses lie at the centre of most Bollywood scripts as breeding grounds of a grand, terrifying plot.

Here's a look at five haunted houses from Bollywood that rightly fit the theme of a great Halloween experience:

1920 (2008)

The film is set in an 18th century house adorning vintage interiors, candle lights and swinging chandeliers, surrounded by beautiful natural landscape and an adjoining eerie forest with a well in the middle. But by night, it becomes a house where the piano plays by itself and where you hear the wind chimes ring mysteriously as the soldier of horrors waits for his next victim. If it were yours and you were to live in it all alone, would you? May be, just for Halloween!

Ragini MMS (2011)

Here is a special Halloween offer: a secluded farmhouse at a location you want. Wait, you might want to know a little more. An old lady was stoned to death here. In fact, some victims claim they have seen an old lady in white, especially at night, hover around the property. A victim's video camera stands testimony to the horrors of the house. Should you wish to stay for Halloween, do not forget to make friends with the lady in white, possibly sitting to your right!

Bhoot (2003)

This is a beautiful apartment with all amenities for comfort and simple pleasures. Here is the catch, though. Owners of this apartment would have to live with a permanent resident, a suffering soul of a kid that wanders around the house with a creepy doll! In the house where mirror reflects a face of its own, soul of a mother is hungry for revenge!

Alone (2015)

The backwater entrance to this ancestral home may be 'The' factor why you would want the house. With its ethnic Kerala architecture that adopts the south-Indian theme of quadrangle courtyards, irregular shapes of windows and glass panes, tiled roofs, spacious rooms and the irreplaceable swing in the courtyard, it's a beautiful house, indeed. But the place has a tale to tell. Long ago, two conjoined twins lived here, until one was killed by the other for love. Avoid the outhouse - this is where the deceased twin was buried. And, totally expect to run into a lady asking for her sister!

Raaz (2002)

With the festive season around, you would not mind going for a vacation, actually. Ooty in Tamil Nadu could be a good choice. The vacation home is secluded, located in the middle of an eerily silent forest. The only thing you must know is that it is also home to a disgruntled deceased lover, waiting to avenge her cheating husband. You are lucky if you escape her wrath.

So, which one is inspiring your Halloween plans this year?
