The story behind this post is interesting. The other day we were discussing about a new commercial property in India which is soon going to bear the title of the tallest building in Noida. Named World Trade Centre Noida, this project inspired us to do a round-up of more such similar structures.

Soaring above cityscapes and horizons across the globe, these structures have been designed to touch the skies. Well, almost.

Yes, we are referring to the tallest buildings of the world. The brainchild of professionals who have dedicated their lives to structural design, these skyscrapers have stood as a manifestation of their architectural excellence. Read on to find out about the world’s tallest buildings:

Burj Khalifa, Dubai Proudly claiming the title of the tallest building across the globe, Burj Khalifa in Dubai towers atop the list of tallest buildings in the world. This architectural marvel took six years to construct, and houses 160 floors inside it. Ever since its inauguration, Burj Khalifa has won several honours as a classic skyscraper rising more than 800 metres over Dubai’s skyline.

Taipei 101 Also known as the Taipei Financial Centre, this Taiwanese skyscraper used to be the tallest building in the world from the year 2004 till 2010. Boasting of several energy-saving and environment-friendly features, Taipei 101 soars 509 metres into the sky and has 101 floors above its ground floor. Taipei 101 is also built to confront earthquakes and typhoons.

Petronas Towers, Malaysia Located at a height of 170 metres above the ground, Petronas Towers are not one but two buildings towering over the ultramodern metropolis of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. Considered to be the tallest structures in the world until 2004, these towers are an important attraction for tourists visiting the city, and become an exhilarating sight when adorned by thousands of lights in the evening.

Shanghai World Financial Centre This is a one-of-its-kind high-rise building with everything ranging from shopping malls, a museum, hospitality establishments, office complexes, business desks and three breathtakingly beautiful observation decks. Shanghai World Financial Centre features a total of 101 floors, and it has won several awards for its brilliant architecture. The building is 492 metres tall, and has a trapezoid aperture at the top, which is also a benchmark of structural efficiency.

Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel Located in the holy city of Mecca, this extravagant hospitality establishment is visible from a distance of 17 kilometres. The hotel is located adjacent to the Masjid al Haram, and only allows access to Muslims. The Royal Clock Tower measures 601 metres, and it is the tallest building in Saudi Arabia.
