Impressing buyers in a buyers’ market is a difficult proposition because they have the leverage. If you are selling your home and are in the market, you have to ensure a ready-to-move-in apartment for prospective buyers for them to be interested in the resale property. To make your home ready-to-move-in, you have to carry out certain interior decorations.

Here is a step-by-step analysis of how you can make your home ready so as to generate buyers’ interest.

Cleaning out the home: The first step to be taken is to clear out your home. This would help homebuyers visualize how they would lead their life in the resale property and also help the apartment look bigger. You can get a storage space where you can pile up the knick-knacks around the home in boxes and the furniture.

Painting the flat for sale: Though painting a home means an expenditure, you may still be able to recover it when the flat is sold. Go for lighter colors as they reflect lights off the walls and make the home seem brighter. Hues such as beige, white and lime yellow look good in apartments for resale. Avoid colors such as red, dark blue or green which absorb light and make your home look dull.

Fixing the bathroom: Most buyers of resale apartments in India ensure that the bathroom is in order before making an offer. Prior to putting up the apartment for sale, you should ensure that the flushes are working and none of the cisterns leak. The basins should also be clean and not broken. Chipped off tiles should be repaired. You should also ensure that the taps open and close perfectly. Geysers which do not work must be replaced or repaired. If either of these tasks is too expensive, you can remove the geyser and list the flat as one which does not have such amenities. Add some air fresheners and disinfectants in order to keep the rooms clean and smell fresh.

Cleaning your kitchen: The cooking area in kitchens attracts a lot of grime and grease from the fuel and cooking oil. Engage a cleaner who would scrape grease off from the walls and clean it afterwards with soap water. You should also get the kitchen sink cleaned along with the shelves, wall and floor. Ensure that no food particle is stuck on the walls and all the spices, condiments and ingredients have been cleared out. Lastly, get the room pest controlled either professionally or through the use of insect killers available in the market. A cockroach crawling out from under the stove top is the last thing you would want when showing your home to prospective buyers.

Clearing out the garage: More often than not, buyers want a garage. Therefore, you should have the garage cleared as well in order to aid buyers assess whether their cars would fit in or not. Remove all unwanted boxes and tools to the shelves above to make the car park look spacious.
