May 23 2014   |   Tania Seth

There are several reasons why many of us struggle to be regular with our exercise regime, especially our gym visits. From being unable to take out time from our busy schedules to not wanting to drive all the way to the local gym every day and not to mention, the steep membership fees – the list is endless.

Fortunately, if you can't get there yourself, there are ways to bring the gym home! Here, we bring you few simple tips and ideas to set up and get your home gym up and running.

Find the Perfect Location Find a space in your house which is used less in comparison to other rooms. This could be a guest room, a garage or any other extra space within the house. Ideally, you should be able to leave your gym setup as it is without moving it from one room to another.

Equipment to Get Started Before jumping to the heavy-duty gym equipment, get some basic and essential pieces of equipment to get you started. These could include a yoga mat, resistance bands, a pull-up bar, an exercise/balance ball and dumbbells. They take up less space and you can use them for a varied exercise routine.

Turn Up the Music What's a session of workout without your favourite, energetic music! Plug in your phone or iPod/MP3 player to a set of small, portable speakers or even your laptop. You can also create a special workout playlist to make your exercise more fun!

Decorate It with Mirrors Transform your home gym by decorating it with mirrors which also help in making a small space look larger. To get a studio like look, you could cover one wall of the room with a large mirror. You can also get smaller mirrors and club them all together on one of the walls.
