Retail in India has been growing at a rapid pace, given the ever expanding presence of organised brands and malls. Arjun Gehlot, Director, Ambience Malls, was quoted in an article saying, “organised retailing in the country is projected to grow at the rate of 25-30 per cent per annum to touch $75 billion by 2017.”

Shopping malls, in fact, have become the most preferred shopping destination, as these are a one stop shop for all the shopping needs, entertainment and food. These have also helped retail real estate to contribute more in the real estate sector as a whole.

Malls in India are not just confined to metros anymore, but have spread their wings in cities beyond metros (Tier-I and Tier-II cities) , too. In 2015, the country witnessed opening of many new malls not only in the metro cities, but also in cities beyond metros.

A large number of malls are under-construction, too, in India, some of which will be opening their doors to the shoppers in 2016. In the cities beyond metros, The Forum Lifestyle Mall in Bhubaneswar, Mili Mall in Anchalumoodu, Kollam and Bailey Square Mall in Patna, ACE Mall in Kozhikode and Indian Mall in Malapurram, are some of the malls expected to open in 2016.
