The year 2015 might not have been the most prosperous year for many, globally. Yet, the year has a place in the history of real estate as it saw the launch of a few of the world's tallest buildings. Here are a few of the top buildings of 2015 and some to be launched in 2016:
Lotte World Tower of Seoul aspires to be the tallest building in the Korean peninsula after its launch in late 2016. Commissioned by Lotte World, known for its recreation complexes, Lotte World Tower will be a mixed-use building. The building will be around 1,821-feet tall and will have 123 storeys. Of these, the first six floors will be reserved for retail and the next six as office space. Residences will take up space till the 85th floor. The rest is earmarked for a luxury hotel, along with the top few floors reserved for public access and an observation deck.
Shanghai Tower, launched in September 2015, is not only the tallest building in China but also the second tallest in the world after Burj Khalifa. The building is owned by a consortium of Chinese state-owned companies and is 2,073-feet high. The building's 128 storeys provide room for around four million square feet for office, retail and leisure space. The uniqueness of the building however is in its shape. The building is in the form of nine cylindrical buildings stacked atop each other. These nine buildings have their own atria, providing a 360-degree view of the city. The building was also designed using sustainable principles saving heavily on cost of material.
Among other top buildings that might be launched in 2016 is Mumbai's World One which is touted to become one of the world's largest residential buildings, being built by the Lodha Group. At 1,450 feet, the building will house premium homes at one of the priciest locations of Lower Parel in Mumbai. Yet another Chinese building that will add to the list of the world's tallest in 2016 is Wuhan Centre located in Central China. It is expected to be around 1,300-feet tall and is earmarked for mixed-use development.
