Urban Homes Have Small Entryways But You Can Still Enhance This Space
No home is complete without a nook or a corner that you do not like. Most modern day urban homes come with unfortunately small entryways. While the space is counted into the carpet area provided by a builder, this space is seen an unusable and unwanted appendage of a home.
It is, however, not necessary to hate the space and it does not have to look ugly and cramped either. Over the years, small homes in congested cities have worked on this aspect to make it functional and beautiful.
Here are some of the ways to make that small entryway beautiful:
1. Small table: One way to utilize the space is to set up a small and slender table, a few inches broad. You can place a bowl to place all your keys, newspapers and also use it as a place to set things just as you enter the home. You can beautify the area by placing a beautiful vase with flowers if you like decorating.
A number of people use it as a coat hanger on the sides of the wall and also place an umbrella stack to use the area. These are a few better uses for the space, as most people use it exclusively for placing a shoe rack.
2. Mini Bar: Quite a few resourceful people also stack up the entryway with a small desk and pretty bar accessories like bottles and glasses. A cheaper way to do it without investing in an expensive bar cabinet, is to clear away an old book case or paint an old cabinet with a varnish. Expect a lot more party guests if you are advertising this bar.
3. Colour and designs: If you think the entryway looks dull and boring, you can jazz it in many ways. A few people differentiate the space by painting in bold colours in contrast to the decor of the hall. A few others choose floral designs too. A neat tapestry hung along the sides of the wall too will make it the beauty spot in the hall. A small painting will also make it neat. If that is too expensive, framing a nice photograph or a painting you do yourself also work as good accessories. Some families prefer to set up pictures on the wall of themselves and their children in patterns.
4. Mirrors: You can create the illusion of making smaller entryway spaces look larger by fixing mirrors. It can also serve as a small dresser with a small stool close by, in a small apartment especially when you are all dressed and about to walk out.
5. Lights and frames: If it looks like a dark area, make it interesting using coloured lights or even small chandliers. Yet another idea to make it interesting is to do up a small frame using plaster of paris. It will highlight the area giving it a classy, arty look.
6. Benches/chairs: The best way to make the area functional is to place a small, narrow bench or a chair. Not only will it be very useful for sitting to wear and take off shoes, it can also augment the seating space, especially when entertaining guests.
