August 27 2015   |   Vidhika Dalmia

There has been a never-ending debate on which Indian metro is the best to live. Weather conditions are a key reason before one gives ones verdict. India's four metros -- Delhi in north, Mumbai in west, Chennai in south and Kolkata in east-- have different weather conditions. PropGuide defines the weather patterns of these cities.

Delhi

National capital Delhi experiences all the four weathers in its full glory. The city witnesses foggy mornings during winters (November, December, January and  February) . It is usually covered with dense fog, with limited visibility in some areas and the temperature varies between a maximum low of three degree celsius and a maximum high of 12 degree celsius. The month of March is comparatively pleasant and the summer starts setting in April and spreads to the peak across May, June and July, when the temperature in Delhi crosses the 48 degrees celsius mark. The summers in Delhi are dry with prominent heat wave. The also has its share of rains in August and a touch of autumn in October.

Mumbai

Mumbai, located on the shores of the Arabian Sea, experiences a mix of humidity and comforting sea breeze. It witnesses warm weather at the beginning of the year. Mornings here are hazy and the afternoons get warmer as the day spreads. The temperature in Mumbai soar to a maximum of 33 degrees celsius during this time. But this period of the year also marks light breeze, thus comforting the kars of the heat. Evenings in Mumbai are of much relief with the temperature ranging between 18 to 20 degrees. Summers in Mumbai are humid.

Kolkata

Kolkata, also known as the city of joy, witnesses foggy and misty mornings due to water bodies and the coast line surrounding it. The air is usually moist and some places are covered with thick mist and have poor visibility. The year begins with slightly warm and sunny temperatures and heavy winds. The average temperatures in Kolkata usually ranges between 26 and 28 degrees celsius, but during peak summers it rises to 40 plus degrees celsius. Minimum temperature recorded stands at 12 degrees celsius. Nights here are pleasant throughout the year.

Chennai

Chennai, located in the peninsular India along the Coromandel coast line, experiences north-east monsoon, which brings rainfall in the months of October, November and December. Hence, the months after September usually see a dip in the temperature due to the rainfall. A typical start of the year is marked with misty temperature and moderate breeze. Temperature in Chennai during this time of the year is around 30 degrees celsius, which is warm but, not as compared to Mumbai. Chennai is more humid and has a sweaty climate during the day time. Evenings are much more comfortable due to the sea breeze sweeping the city.

With the different weather conditions across Indian cities, it is usually difficult to predict which is better. This choice is best left to the individuals.
