The government has announced the third list of smart cities. Of the 45 cities that participated, 30 cities will now be made smart under the government's flagship Smart City Mission.

The residential and commercial establishments in Ghaziabad with area above 300 sqm will have to make rainwater harvesting system functional as the Ghaziabad Development Authority issues notices. The GDA during map approval has made rainwater harvesting system a mandatory, but city-based environmentalists claim that despite this, many establishments either have not installed the system or it is in non-functional state.

Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal has approved a notification to declare 95 villages as development areas of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) under the land pooling policy. The 95 villages have been divided into five zones --- K-1 (20 villages) , L (30 villages) , N (21 villages) , P-II (23 villages) and J (1 village) . The land pooling policy was notified by the Ministry of Urban Development in September 2013.

The government has issued a clarification, saying that no ongoing or future projects can be advertised without registering these with the Real Estate Regulatory Authority in the state concerned. Section 3 (1) of the Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Act, 2016, prohibits advertisements for all projects- ongoing and future without registration with the regulator. This provision came into effect from May 1 this year.

The Union Cabinet is likely to approve setting up of a Rs 2,000-crore credit guarantee fund by July-end with a view to provide funding facilities to startups. Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) Secretary Ramesh Abhishek told media that the fund would be used to lend to startups without any collateral.

Taking lesson from the recent London blaze that reportedly killed 79 people, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials have notified several highrises in Mumbai as a fire hazard, and have made installation of exclusive external firemen's lifts mandatory.
