#WeeklyNewsRoundUp: PM Modi Inaugurates Eastern Peripheral Highway, Delhi Meerut Expressway

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 27 inaugurated two key expressways. While the Rs 7,500-crore, 14-lane Delhi-Meerut Expressway will cut down the travel time between the two cities to 40 minutes from the current two-and-half-hours, the Rs 11,000-crore Eastern Peripheral Expressway will help around 50,000 vehicles travelling up to Jammu and Kashmir, to skirt Delhi.

The Centre has approved construction of 1.5 lakh houses for the urban poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) , taking to 47.52 lakh the tally of houses under the programme so far. The latest approval entails an investment of Rs 7,227 crore with Central assistance of Rs 2,209 crore.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has become the "first" civic body in the country to generate solar energy by installing panels over rooftops of its over 55 buildings and earn a huge income in three months by selling surplus power to a power distribution company. The SDMC also plans to install solar panels over rooftops of its 400 buildings by June 2019.

While their complaints are pending with the Economic Offences Wing and the consumer forum, the Lotus Panache Flat Buyers Association is planning to move the Supreme Court. The project by realtor 3C has 30 towers in total. Though nine of the towers have already been built and a thousand units have been handed over, 4,000 investors are awaiting delivery while no construction process is in sight for the pending work.

Telangana Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao has said the state government would complete the construction of one lakh double-bedroom houses for the poor in Hyderabad. According to a state government release, construction of approximately 40,000 houses would be completed by next December, if the present pace of work continued.
