To provide relief to hassled homebuyers residing in flats built by embattled Amrapali Group, the Supreme Court (SC) on January 16 indicated that it might allow them to register their residences in projects that have yet to receive completion certificates. The top court said that it might invoke powers of extraordinary jurisdiction under Article 142 of the Constitution to direct for registration of the flats with authorities concerned.

Meanwhile, the officials doing forensic audit of Amrapali told the top court that 23 companies were floated in the name of office boys, peons and drivers and were made fronts to divert homebuyers' money.

In its draft Budget for financial year 2019-20, the Pune Municipal Corporation has proposed a 12 per cent hike in property tax rate. Apart from this, those living in Pune will also have to shell out an additional 15 per cent on their water bills as the PMC has already approved a hike in this regard.

Even as 10 per cent of the villagers displaced by the project have yet to vacate the area, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said the Navi Mumbai Airport would be ready by mid-2020. The earlier deadline for the airport project was set for 2019.

The Tamil Nadu government plans to launch a pilot project near Chennai to pool land for a residential project before it finalises the state land pooling policy. For the pilot project, the state has identified land parcels between Vandalur and Kundrathur.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to recover from Gurgaon’s privately built residential colony Sushant Lok-1 a penalty for environment violations. If the colony fails to make the payment, a closure is also likely, according to the directive of the green tribunal.
