Know these challenges
Around 32 housing societies in Kharadi are facing water shortages since March and are completely dependent on private water tankers. According to the residents, local engineers attribute inadequate water in tanks to leakages from the pipeline. The representatives also alleged that a large number of illegal connections had been routed for commercial purposes — roadside eateries being one of the beneficiaries. While the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials said that it would link water supply in the area to Bhama Askhed project, it is unlikely that the project would be completed before 2019. As per the estimate, Kharadi homebuyers paid Rs 3 crore as property tax to the PMC. At the same time, the water-deprived housing societies have to shell out around Rs 4.7 crore for private water tankers.
