Doing the interiors of your new home is not an easy job. You plan it all, fuss around with this detail and that, but what you get in the end is not always delightful. This is not because you didn't do it right, but because of the fact that slightest of mistakes can creep up from nowhere and mar the beauty of your dream home. To avoid these mistakes and to create order and balance in your interior decor, you must be able to tell right from wrong. A few tweaks in the plan can make all the difference.
To help you, here is a list of interior decor blunders you must avoid:
1- Don't make your home look like a “furniture dumping ground'
This is probably the most common mistake we make. Over-furnishing your house makes your room look small and cramped. Furniture should be placed in a way so as to allow enough space to maneuver around. Sometimes it is not about the number of furniture, but its proper placement. If you feel that your room is cluttered, try moving a few pieces of furniture out of the room.

2- Size matters
Clothes are to people what furniture is to home. And the most important thing is that it should fit. Choose the furniture that are in correct proportion to the size of your flat and do not make the space look small and cluttered.
3-Remember, furniture comes only after paint
It would be quite difficult to paint your room according to your furniture. So, choose your paint's color first and then shop for furniture and accessories that match the color. After you are done with the painting, bring swatches of furniture materials and colors to test at home.
4- Don't be an impulsive buyer
Don't buy something just because it looks attractive and you like it. What if you have got no place in your home to put that big vase you purchased? Put some thought into whatever you buy and take only that which you actually need and which would also suit the decor and size of your house.

5- A monochromatic decor can give you an eye sore!
Suppose you have painted all your walls in deep orange and you bring orange bed sheets, orange cushions, orange mats, orange vases, orange curtains and oran…… Enough! This is a serious decor blunder. Do not try to overdo the matching technique. Instead, you can go for a contrast colored accessories to give your room a lively flavor.
6- Go for a well-coordinated color palette
You may like the idea of painting the master bedroom in a subtle color like beige or off-white but you also need to think about the color of other rooms accordingly. You will obviously not like to come out of a soothing-colored room into a bright purple or orange living area. You should choose a color palette that creates a connection between different parts of your apartment.
7- Lighting is the master key of decor. Do not ignore it.
Do not block sources of natural light like windows. Let the light pour into your home. Rooms that receive less light should never be painted in dark colors. Have more than one source of artificial light but not so many that it becomes unpleasant. Keep the room perfectly lit.

8-Throw away things you don't like.
If you don't like a piece of furniture now, you won't like it ever again. So, instead of having it before your eyes and abhorring it, it's better to get rid of it. This will make some room for new and better things in the house.
Apart from the above eight points, there are some more facts about home decor that people seem to ignore. For example- one should never be a clutter-bug. Too many accessories and there is discord in the decor. To give your house an order and direction, you can create a focal point by keeping something bold that attracts immediate attention. Start outwards and build around it. Your house speaks of your taste, so you should make the best of it.
