Andhra Pradesh's Singapore-Like Capital Amaravati To Cost Over Rs 27,000 Cr

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's dream project Amaravati, the Singapore-like new capital city of the state, will cost over Rs 27,000 crore, according to the Government of India.

The new capital was announced after the Telangana-Andhra bifurcation and its foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 22 this year.

The state government has earmarked 7,325 sq km of area in Vijayawada and Guntur districts of Andhra for development of the new capital region. Additionally, a 391 sq km of area, located centrally within the capital region, has been identified for the development of the new capital city. The capital region would comprise of 291 villages, nine medium towns, one large city and one metropolitan city. The city is envisaged to have twin water frontage of approximately 15 km, overlooking the river Krishna.

It was on December 7 that the Centre-appointed expert committee for the new capital presented its report talking about the cost of this city, in the upper house of Parliament. Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary submitted the report.
