Architecture Feature – Burj Al Arab, Dubai

A hotel that epitomizes luxury and grandeur, Burj Al Arab is an architectural marvel in itself. One of the world’s most spectacular 7 star hotels, Burj Al Arab stands tall at 1,053 feet making it the fourth tallest hotel in the world.

It is situated on an artificial island which is about 280 metres from the well-known Jumeirah beach in Dubai and is linked to land by a private bridge.

The brilliant structure of Burj Al Arab resembles the sail of a ship and was designed by architect Tom Wright. In order to build a solid foundation for the structure, about 230 concrete piles, each 40 metres long were driven into the sand. Interestingly, it took three years to reclaim the land from the sea whereas it took lesser time to actually construct the hotel.

The hotel features super-luxurious suites with floor-to-ceiling windows that open out to the magnificent Dubai coastline. There is also a full-service spa in the hotel in addition to several restaurants and bars. Burj Al Arab is also famous for housing the world’s highest, circular tennis court which also doubles as a helipad.
