Are You Beginning To Feel A Disconnect With Your Home?
Neha Mehta underwent a great deal of pain to buy a house in Noida all on her own. Sure, banks offered her lower rate of interest on the home loan but we all know that is just one part of the work. There are so many other things that totally boggle your mind while you are in the process of buying a home. However, most surprisingly, 32-year-old Mehta is losing the passion she used to have for her self-occupied property. Gone are the days when she would spend her off days in planning things for her home. There seems to be nothing exciting about the job anymore. She also tried to spend as much time in office as she could. She would later join her friends for dinner, etc., just to delay her arrival at her home.
The question is what went wrong? Is the sentiment similar to having a new toy and then losing your interest in it as time passes? Probably. But as we all know, property investments for most of us are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Most of us cannot “afford” to lose interest in it; buying another property will surely be tougher than re-establishing a connection with your old property. Now, how do we reconnect with our homes?

Begin again
The tiresome exercise of home buying often leaves us excitement-less. The initial euphoria ebbs as soon as we discover the complexities involved with the process. This fatigue could by and by make you lose interest in your home. Property ownership is an emotional notion while property purchase is an out and out material task. The trick lies in not succumbing to pressure that this material transaction builds around you. Employing yourself in re-modeling your home could be one way to do that. This does not mean you have to prepare yourself for spending a big amount; small changes would be as good. If you are a reader, for instance, setting up a small library for you would give you immensely pleasing. If you are a music lover, equip your home with a music system of your choice. Even a little piece of furniture would be enough to break the monotony.
The perfect host
All about remodeling and refurbishing said and done, it is our family and friends at the end of the day that change a house into a home. If you live with your family, you will always find a connect with your home. However, today's cities are made of nuclear families; getting bored, disconnected and weary is common. There are small ways in which this boredom could be broken. Hosting parties and small ceremonies here, for example, could be quite rejuvenating. Must you go out for the New Year's party? Why not host some friends at your pad instead? This could be especially effective for people like Mehta who live alone. Rather than going to your friend's or colleague's place to enjoy occasional company, you could ask them to come to your place. As you prepare your home for their arrival, you would know your home better; as you clean the mess after the party is over, you would know your home is little world and offers you all kinds of possibilities.
